On June 2-3 this year, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Uzbekistan Jonathan Henick visited Urganch State University.
First, the ambassador had a meeting with the rector of the university B.Abdullayev. Deputy governor of Khorezm region B. Saidov, university vice-rectors G. Orazboyev, Z. Ibragimov, coordinator of "Access" program F. Masharipova took part in this meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, Rector B.Abdullayev introduced the current activities of the university. He talked about the attention paid to the development of foreign cooperation on the initiative of the President and the work being done at our university in this regard, he spoke about the cooperation relations established with US higher education institutions, summer schools, international conferences with the participation of mathematicians.
Also, at the meeting, the work being carried out within the framework of the "Access Microscholarship" program, organized in cooperation with the US Embassy in Urganch State University to teach English to schoolchildren in need of social protection, and the issues of further development of this cooperation were discussed.
Ambassador Jonathan Henick highly appreciated the cooperation between the US Embassy and the university and expressed his desire to further strengthen it in other areas in the future.
After that, Mr. Jonathan Henik visited the Faculty of Foreign Philology, where he studied the activities of the "Access Microscholarship" project, and participated in an event organized by the schoolchildren. Within the framework of this project, thousands of youth from Khorezm not only learned English from experienced experts on the basis of various modern interactive methods, and at the same time, they are also gaining a lot of knowledge about the history of American culture.
On this day, Mr. Jonathan Henick met with the students from the USA who visited our university for 2 months of international research experience within the framework of the International Research Experience for Students (IRES) project, which has been implemented in cooperation with the California State University since 2017.
On the second day of the visit, Ambassador Jonathan Henick visited the KRASS-Khorezm Rural Advisory Support Service, a non-governmental non-profit organization located at the Urganch State University. J. Ruzimov, director of the KRASS-Khorezm Rural Advisory Support Service, introduced the scientific and research work carried out in the scientific laboratories of the KRASS building.
In particular, by introducing the GIS laboratory, the laboratory is developing a GIS program for identifying and predicting pests and diseases of agricultural crops, using GIS software to place plants according to their water demand and salinity tolerance during the current water shortage, in which remote sensing and analyzed it with the help of the program of aerospace cameras of the previous years, and gave information about the practical application of the results. He also got to know the laboratories of Chemistry, Biology, and Soil Science. The ambassador was interested in what work is being done in the laboratories against soil salinity and drought, and how the results of scientific work are being applied to production.
After that, in the conference room, Liliana Sin got acquainted with the employees of the KRASS-Khorezm Rural Advisory Support Service and listened to the presentation about the establishment of the KRASS-Khorazm Khorezm Rural Advisory Support Service and the scientific works and projects that are currently being implemented.
At the end of the visit, Mr. Jonathan Henick thanked the university team for the warm and friendly relations, wished more success to the activities of Urganch State University and KRASS-Khorezm Rural Advisory Support Service, and expressed his happiness with this visit.
